HOW IT HAPPENED
- DSU and CBU traded the lead four times in the first four minutes of the game, as Emily Jones hit three three-point shots for the Lady Bucs.
- Both teams couldn't make a bucket for over two minutes towards the end of the opening quarter until Shaniyah Buford made a layup to tie the game at 15 at the end of the first.
- The Lady Statesmen then went on an 8-0 run early in the first two minutes of the second quarter to push the lead out to 27-19.
- DSU made it an 11-point lead before CBU answered and cut the deficit to 39-35 at the half.
- Delta State went on another run, this one a 7-0 spurt, behind a couple of layups from Smith. They also held the Lady Bucs scoreless for three and half minutes to take a 54-42 lead.
- At the end of the quarter, Brynne Lytle scored five straight points to make it 56-49, but that's as close as it got for CBU.
- Two baskets from Ewing and Buford pushed the lead for DSU out to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
- CBU ended the game on a 8-4 run to make the final score 78-64.
TURNING POINT
- A steal by Alanna Smith and a layup by Kaylyn Wilson capped off a 9-2 run and forced a CBU timeout. That run made it 53-42 with 3:20 left in the third quarter, and DSU never led by fewer than 10 points from that point on.
