Kelen Dietrich dropped 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting in his second collegiate start, and the Delta State University men's basketball team notched an 82-78 win over Christian Brothers to sweep the weekend doubleheader from the Bucs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Delta State and Christian Brothers traded buckets in the game's opening minutes, as DSU held an 11-10 lead with 13:56 to play in the first half.
- A Kelen Dietrich three-pointer sparked a 14-4 run by DSU as the Statesmen took a 25-14 lead with 7:50 remaining in the first half.
- The Statesmen led by nine, 30-21, with 6:15 remaining in the first half, but CBU trimmed the lead to one at the break.
- Jesse Payne banked in a three-pointer as time expired as part of a 17-9 run to pull within one point of the Statesmen, 39-38, at the halftime intermission.
- Three-pointers by Austin Laatsch, Kelen Dietrich, and Michael Motley as part of a Delta State 17-9 sprint to make it 56-47 with 14:38 to play.
- CBU's Nick Deifel hit a layup and a free throw to cap a three-point play and tie the score at 63-63 with 7:53 to play.
- Two Motley layups helped the Statesmen build a 78-70 advantage with 3:50 to play.
- A couple of late turnovers allowed the Bucs to pull within four points, with 56 seconds to go, but Jaylen Lemons hit a pair of free throws and the Statesmen hung on for an 82-78 victory.
TURNING POINT
- After CBU trimmed a nine-point Delta State lead to a single possession with 56 seconds left, but a Michael Motley free throw and two free throws from Jaylen Lemons held off the Bucs attempt at a comeback.
STAT OF THE GAME
- The Statesmen outscored CBU 52-24 in the paint and shot 59.2 percent (29-of-49) from the floor, including 61 percent in the second half.
NOTABLES
- Motley poured in a career-high 29 points, and tallied six rebounds as well. He went 11-for-14 from the free throw line.
- Cartwright notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and added three assists.
- Dietrich registered 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting, including of going 3-for-4 from three-point territory. Laatsch also added 11 points and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
- Payne led the way for CBU with 19 points and six assists.
