MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Delta State University softball team dropped the first two games of the series to the University of Montevallo Falcons on Friday afternoon. The Lady Statesmen were shut out 6-0 and 8-0 in games one and two of the doubleheader, respectively.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons flew to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Hannah Carey hammered a solo home run.
- Montevallo added another run in the bottom of the third on a Lauren Higginbotham singled to right.
- The Falcons tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when Mariel Bertossi belted a two-run homerun to plate Carlee Mullinax.
- The last runs of the game came in the bottom of the six as Sierra Easterwood scored on a error by Taylor Picou. Carey then scored on a throwing error to secure the 6-0 win.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Olivia Burns (5-9) got the start and took the loss for DSU. She went three innings and gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out one.
- Jenny Griggers came in relief and went three innings giving up four hits and two runs walking two and striking out two.
- Mychael McMillan (5-6) won the game for Montevallo. She went seven innings, gave up four hits, walked three, and struck out nine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo came out of the gate quickly in game two of the doubleheader and took an early 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Carey and a run on an error by the Lady Statesmen.
- The Falcons tacked on four more runs to extend their lead 6-0 in the bottom of the third. Alexis Cortez singled to right field that scored Carey. Holly LaForce then had a bases-clearing double to left that scored Easterwood, Mariel Bertossi, and Cortez.
- The last runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth as a home run and a single proved costly to the Lady Statesmen. Bertossi hit a solo home run to left field. Carey then singled to left field to plate Cortez as UM took the 8-0 win over the Lady Statesmen.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Lacey Coats (13-5) took the loss for the Green and White. Coats logged 2.2 innings and gave up six hits and six runs against one strikeout.
- Jenny Griggers came in to relieve Coats. Griggers worked two complete innings and allowed four hits and two runs, with one of the runs being earned.
- Easterwood (5-4) got the start for the Falcons. Easterwood only allowed two hits in five innings of work.
