CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University softball team dropped the first two games of the series to the Valdosta State Lady Blazers on Friday afternoon. The Lady Statesmen scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning but could not hold on to the lead and lost 6-4.
In the second game, DSU scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to roses extra innings, but gave up six in the top of the eighth to drop game two 10-4.

GAME 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Statesmen came out of the gate quickly in game one. They took advantage of two VSU errors as Jenny Griggers, Jaclyn Deason, and Hope Harbin all had RBI.
- Neither team scored again until the fourth when the Lady Blazers used a walk, a double, and then a Morgan Hill two-run home run to tie the game.
- The Lady Blazers took the lead in the fifth using two singles and another two run home run from Lacy Crandall to take a 6-3 lead.
- The last run of the game came in the bottom of the six as Deason hit a solo home run for DSU to make it 6-4.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Olivia Burns (5-7) got the start and took the loss for DSU. She went four and two-thirds of an inning giving up nine hits and six runs while walking one and striking out six.
- Jenny Griggers came in relief and went two and one-third of an inning giving up two hits.
- Samantha Richards (14-2) won the game for Valdosta State. She went seven innings giving up nine hits, four runs, and struck out five.
NOTABLES (GM1)
- Deason hit her first home run of the season and had two RBI.
- Harbin went 3-for-3 from the plate.
- Ragan Stafford was 2-for-4 from the plate.
GAME 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- VSU went up early in game two with a walk, double and a sacrifice fly to score two runs.
- In the bottom of the first, Summer Cryder was thrown out at home trying to steal the base.
- Nicole Pennington hit a Gulf South Conference best 12th home run to make it 3-0 in favor of the Lady Blazers.
- Hunter Meadows drove in a run and to make the lead for VSU 4-0.
- In the bottom of the seventh, DSU scored four runs to tie the ball game. Deason reached on an error. That was followed by back-to-back singles from Harbin and Julie Scherermann. Summer Cryder then hit a single to get DSU on the board.
- Kailyn Lofton singled as well to drive in another run and make it 4-2. Griggers then singled to score to two more runs and tie the ball game.
- VSU made a pitching change and got out of the inning with two Lady Statesmen still win base.
- In the top of the eighth, VSU used four hits, three walks, and an error to score six runs.
- DSU could not get a runner on base in the bottom of the eighth.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Griggers got the start, earned the loss, and went seven and one-third innings. She gave up eight runs on 11 hits.
- Lacey Coats went two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout.
- Morgan Hill got the start for VSU. She went six and two-thirds innings and gave up four runs on ten hits while striking out six.
- Avery Lamb (3-0) came in relief for VSU and earned the win. She didn't give up a hit in one and one-third innings while striking out two.
NOTABLES (GM 2)
- Cryder was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.
- Griggers was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
- Karley Bloesch was 2-for-4.
