CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Statesmen Basketball (0-5 overall, 0-3 GSC) led the Valdosta State Blazers (6-2, 3-0) by five points at the half, but the Blazers used a 43-point second half to keep their conference record perfect in their 73-64 win. Saturday's game was back-and-forth for the majority of the game with 6 ties and 8 lead changes throughout.
Valdosta State shot 53.2% for the game on their 47 shot attempts compared to Delta State's 35.9% night on 64 shots. Delta State attempted 17 more shots thanks in part to their 12 offensive rebounds for the game. The Statesmen capitalized with 15 second-chance points, but Valdosta would counter with 22 points scored off of Delta State turnovers.
The Statesmen cashed in on 11 of their 33 three-point attempts, led by Wyatt Bell who hit 3 shots from distance and finished with 13 points. Sam Smith led the Statesmen in scoring and finished with a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds.
