CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Sillers Coliseum saw the return of
Maalik Cartwright on Monday evening, but Statesmen Basketball (0-6 overall, 0-4 GSC) continues to look for its first win of the season. The Statesmen shot 46% from the field against West Florida (4-3, 1-3), but the Argonauts' 22 second-chance points proved to be the difference in their 75-64 win.
Delta State was able to match the Argonauts point-for-point in the second half, but the 46-35 UWF advantage at the half proved to be the difference. Delta State outshot the Argonauts from distance, making 7 shots from beyond the arc on Monday.
Cartwright led the Statesmen in scoring with 21 points on a 9-for-12 shooting performance, trailing only UWF's Latrell Tate for the game-high (22 points).
Lee Cotton was in double figures with 11 points, including 3 made three-pointers. Sam Smith scored 10 points with 4 rebounds in only 15 minutes of action.
