Lady Statesmen Drop One-Possession Game to Valdosta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Lady Statesmen basketball (2-5 overall, 1-2 GSC) had a chance to force overtime with Valdosta State on Saturday night, but the Valdosta State Lady Blazers (3-2, 2-1) would escape Sillers Coliseum with the conference victory. Both teams would shoot around 30% from the field for the game with the Lady Statesmen hitting 5 of their 11 three-point attempts (45/5%).

The two teams were tied 9-9 at the end of the first and the Lady Blazers only led by one at the halftime break. Delta State used a 50% shooting performance in the third to time the game back at the end of the third, but the Valdosta State defense would apply some late pressure to give them enough space to claim a 2-point lead with 38 seconds left.

Delta State would get the last shot of the game, but a missed jumper by Alanna Smith would give the win to VSU. Alanna Smith finished with a game-high 14 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

Camryn Davis was also in double figures with 12 points and 7 boards. Otashae Burrage scored 8 points and Michelle Smith had 5 points to go with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
