CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Statesmen (1-9 overall, 1-7 GSC) and West Alabama Tigers (8-2, 5-2) couldn't decide a winner in regulation, but the Statesmen were outscored 13-4 in the overtime period of West Alabama's 80-71 win on Sunday night. Delta State dropped the decision despite making eight three-pointers in the contest while keeping the Tigers from connecting on any of their long-range attempts.
The Tigers made more free throws than DSU attempted, but the Statesmen still only converted on 9 of their 16 attempts (.563) from the charity stripe, compared to the 18-for-24 (.750) performance from West Alabama. UWA also held advantages in second-chance points (15-9) and points off turnovers (10-9).
Maalik Cartwright led all scorers with 24 points to go with 9 rebounds and 5 assists.
Wyatt Bell was the only other Statesmen in double figures with 16 points, including 4 made three-pointers.
