MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The Lady Statesmen (4-6 overall, 3-3 GSC) shot the ball well all night against Montevallo, but the early three-point shooting helped create the cushion that would give Delta State a 76-63 win over the Montevallo Falcons (2-8, 2-4). Delta State hit 9 of their 14 shot attempts (.643) in the first quarter including 5-of-7 (.714) from beyond the arc.
Delta State was also effective down low, outscoring the Falcons 32-18 in paint points. It was also a wire-to-wire win for DSU, having never trailed or tied with Montevallo.
Camryn Davis and
Alanna Smith were tied for the team lead with 16 points apiece, trailing only Montevallo's Marisa Snodgrass for the game-high with 19 points.
Michelle Smith wasn't far behind either with 15 points for the junior guard.
Davis and
Grace Watson were tied for the team-high in rebounds with 8 each, followed by
Michelle Smith with 7 boards, and
Bryanna Taylor with 6 rebounds.
