BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Delta State University men's basketball player
Maalik Cartwright earned Gulf South Conference men's basketball Player of the Week honors as announced by the league on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
Cartwright averaged 24.0 points and 7.5 rebounds for the weekend and shot 60 percent (21-for-35) from the floor.
The Holly Springs, Ark. native posted 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting in a 58-55 win against No. 22 Union (Tenn.) University, and added seven rebounds, one assist, and two blocks.
Cartwright followed that performance with 23 points, eight rebounds, and two assists on 10-of-19 shooting in an 87-79 overtime victory ovr Christian Brothers University. The Statesmen overcame a four-point deficit in the gam's final 31 seconds, and Cartwright's put back dunk with seven seconds to play in regulation helped the Statesmen force overtime and get a win.
