Montevallo Hands Delta State Senior Day Loss

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University men's basketball team struggled to shoot the ball for the second consecutive home game, and the University of Montevallo Falcons soared past the Statesmen 86-70 on Senior Day.

STATS OF THE GAME
  • The Falcons charged out to a 5-0 lead, but back-to-back Kasey Walker-Gregg layups capped a 9-0 DSU run to take an early advantage at the 15:49 mark.
  • The two teams traded leads but, with the score tied 16-16 at the 11:00 mark of the first half, Montevallo used a 14-5 spurt to build a double-digit lead.
  • An Austin Laatsch three-pointer with two minutes to go in the first half cut the lead to nine points, but a James McNeil three-pointer beat the first half buzzer and gave the Falcons a 46-33 halftime advantage. 
  • DSU cut the lead to 10 points on two occasions in the second half, but the Falcons had answers each time to re-build their double-digit lead.
  • Montevallo was 12-for-24 from three-point territory (50 percent), and shot 60 percent for the game.
  • Falcons' guard Braxton Bertolette posted 22 points to lead five Falcons in double-figures.
  • Lee Cotton and Maalik Cartwright each scored 22 points to pace the Statesmen. Walker-Gregg added 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
  • Montevallo edged the Statesmen 40-38 on points in the paint, and the Statesmen out-rebounded the Falcons 32-31.
