MONTICELLO, Ark. -- The Delta State University baseball team held off a late University of Arkansas-Monticello rally to claim a 6-5 win on Tuesday afternoon at Weevils Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Statesmen scored a run in the first and fourth innings to build a 2-0 advantage.
- Chad Ragland doubled and scored on a passed ball in the first and Jake Barlow tripled and scored on a Brett Burrell sac-fly in the fourth.
- Delta State tacked on four runs to make the score 6-0 in the sixth without the benefit of a hit. Two runs scored when Noah Thigpen and Burrell drew bases-loaded walks and two more crossed on sacrifice flies by Kade Dees and Carson Clowers.
- UAM's Grant Shepherd hit a solo home run and Jordan Johnson drove in a run on a single to trim the DSU lead to 6-2 in the eighth.
- The Boll Weevils scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Andrew Morlen struck out Trevor Rugg swinging to end the game.
ON THE MOUND
- Hammer Franks (2-1) recorded six strikeouts while yielding a pair of hits over 5.0 scoreless innings to earn the win.
- Cameron Johnson (0-1) gave up a run on two hits with five strikeouts over 2.2 innings of work as the pitcher of record for UAM.
- Andrew Morlen (1) recorded the final out to pick up the save.
NOTABLES
- The two hits recorded by the Statesmen were extra-base hits, a triple by Barlow and a Ragland double.
- Delta State drew six walks on the afternoon.
