Five-Run Seventh Helps Statesmen Spilt Doubleheader With Lee

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- A five-run bottom of the seventh inning uprising rallied the Delta State University baseball team to a 6-5 walk-off win over Lee University in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Sunday at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

Hayden White delivered a two-run double, and Kirkland Trahan drove in two runs to help the Statesmen erase a 5-1 deficit in the seventh. Wyatt Pratt got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the walk-off win.

 HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
  • Dylan Standifer staked Lee to a 1-0 lead, belting a solo home run with two outs in the first inning.
  • Cam Suto's three-run home run gave Lee a 4-0 lead in the top of the sixth.
  • Kirkland Trahan singled and scored on a Wyatt Pratt to get the Statesmen on the board trailing 4-1.
  • Blayke Dendy's home run to left field cut the Flames lead to 4-3 in the eighth. The Statesmen stranded the tying run at third when a strikeout ended the threat.
  • Alan Zhang Carter sat the Statesmen down in order in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game
ON THE MOUND | GM 1
  • Sam Fulton (3-1) allowed one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win for Lee.
  • Hammer Franks (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.
  • Carter worked 1.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to record the save.
 HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
  • Solo home runs by Standifer and Jared Demkowicz gave the Flames to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
  • Jake Barlow cut the Lee lead in half with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second.
  • Demkowicz belted a three-run home run to give Lee a 5-1 lead in the fifth.
  • Delta State rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win.
  • Hayden White delivered a two-run double that scored Wyatt Pratt and Carson Clowers.
  • Kirkland Trahan tied the game when his single scored White and Ragland to tie the game 5-5.
  • Pratt was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Trahan the 6-5 walk-off win.
ON THE MOUND | GM 2
  • Charlie Darnall (1-1) worked a scoreless seventh with a strikeout to pick up the win in relief.
  • Jackson Rutledge allowed one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
  • Jack Nedrow (3-3) was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
NOTABLES 
  • DSU claimed the series 2-1 and have won seven of their last eight GSC games.
  • Dendy was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in game one.
  • Trahan finished the doubleheader 4-for-8 with two runs scored and two RBI. Trahan was 2-for-4 in game one and went 2-for-4 with two RBI in game two.
  • Barlow's solo home run in game two was the 38th of his career as the senior passed Devin Goodwin (2006-2009) for fifth on the DSU career home runs list.  
  • Barlow finished 2-for-3 with home run and an RBI in game two.
