CLEVELAND, Miss. -- No. 25 the Delta State University baseball team committed three costly errors in the fourth inning as No. 11 Southern Arkansas claimed a 5-2 win on Wednesday night at Harvey Stadium-Ferriss Field.

  • Chad Ragland walked and later scored on a Jake Barlow groundout for a 1-0 Statesmen lead in the first inning.
  • Tucker Burton singled home the tying run for Southern Arkansas in second.
  • Riley Orr drew a bases loaded walked and Chris Sutton plated a run on a sac-fly as part of a three-run fourth to give SAU a 4-1 lead.
  • Chris Lyles gave SAU a 5-1 lead in the seventh singling Jakob Machuca, who doubled.
  • The Statesmen cut the deficit to 5-2 when Wyatt Pratt singled and scored after Ragland got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
ON THE MOUND
  • Charlie Darnall (1-2) gave up three runs on two hits with two walks to take the loss for the Statesmen.
  • Jonny Vesevick (1-1) struck out five while allowing one run on two hits with three walks to earn the win.
