CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Delta State University baseball team belted three home runs to sweep a doubleheader from rival Mississippi College by scores of 6-4 and 3-2 on Saturday at Harvey Stadium at Ferriss Field.

  HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1

  • Caleb Reese highlighted a three-run first inning with a two-run home run to stake the Choctaws to a 3-0 lead. 
  • The Statesmen scored a run in the first and three in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
  • A Jake Barlow sac-fly cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • Dalton Cummins hit a two-run home run and Hayden White singled in a run to put the Statesmen in front 4-3 in the fourth. 
  • Cummins belted a solo home run and another run scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead DSU to 6-3 in the sixth.
  • The Choctaws scored a run on a wild pitch in the eighth to trim their deficit to 6-4. 

ON THE MOUND | GM 1

  • Harrison Haley (7-0) allowed three runs on 12 hits and struck out five to pick up the win.
  • Jackson Bridges (3-3) gave up five runs, four earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts in taking the loss.
  • Cooper Brune (3) worked the final two innings, yielding a run on two hits with three strikeouts to close the game for the Statesmen. 

  HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2

  • Woogie Lee singled and scored on a Tristan Tigrett single for a 1-0 MC lead in the first. 
  • Kirkland Trahan's fourth home run of the year and a Cummins RBI single gave the Statesmen a 2-1 lead in the second. 
  • A Hayden Cooper sac-fly pushed the Statesmen's lead to 3-1 in the third. 
  • Lance Wade's RBI double in the fifth cut the lead to 3-2. 

ON THE MOUND | GM 2

  • Landon Zizmann (6-1) tossed six strong innings, yielding two runs on six hits three strikeouts to earn the win. 
  • Steven Lacey (1) tossed a scoreless seventh to record the save.
  • Joseph Cuomo (2-6) took the loss for MC, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts. 

NOTABLES

  • The game one win was the 200th career win for Statesmen skipper Rodney Batts.
  • Cummins finished game one with a pair of home runs and three RBI. 
  • Hayden White was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game one. 
  • Kirkland Trahan led the Statesmen with two hits in game two.
  • The win extended the Statesmen GSC win streak to eight games.
