OXFORD, Ala. -- No. 1 seeded Delta State University baseball team could not dig out of an early deficit in a 9-3 loss to No. 5 seed Lee University in a winner's bracket game of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Tournament on Saturday at Choccolocco Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cam Suto walked and scored on a Justen Freeman double to give Lee a 1-0 lead in the second.
- Carson Clowers tripled and scored on a Chad Ragland squeeze bunt.
- A Freeman RBI double and a Jake Edwards RBI triple highlighted a four-run fourth to stake the Flames to a 5-1 lead.
- Jake Barlow worked a walk and Kirkland Trahan singled before scoring on Kade Dees' flare single to left to cut the Lee lead to 5-3 in the sixth.
- Brandon Daniels's two-run home run pushed Lee's advantage to 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Jared Demkowicz singled home a pair of run in the bottom of the eight to make the score 9-3.
ON THE MOUND
- Landon Zizmann (8-3) tossed 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts as the pitcher of record for the Statesmen.
- Miguel Alba (5-2) worked 5.2 frames, yielding three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts and six walks to pick up the win.
- Sam Fulton (5) gave up one hit with five strikeouts over 3.1 scoreless innings to get the save.
