CLINTON, Miss. -- The Statesmen (4-10 overall, 3-8 GSC) led by as many as 20 points in their 80-63 win at Mississippi College (8-6, 5-6) on Monday night. Delta State enters the new year in the middle of a three-game winning streak.
Delta State led by seven at the half and kept the pressure on as they outscored the Choctaws 43-33 in the second half. Both teams shot over 45 percent from the field in the game, but one key difference was the 19 Choctaw turnovers which led to 26 points for the Statesmen.
Five of the six Statesmen that scored on Monday reached double-figures, led by
Maalik Cartwright with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Kelen Dietrich hit 3 shots from beyond the arc and finished with 18 points.
Sam Smith recorded his 7th double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards.
Jonathan Knight scored 11 points with 3 made three-pointers and 3 steals.
Lee Cotton also hit 2 three-pointers and finished with 10 points.
