CLEVELAND, Miss. -- The Lady Statesmen (7-9 overall, 6-6 GSC) outscored West Georgia (7-8, 6-6) 11-5 in the fourth quarter on Saturday night, but the fast start for the Wolves proved to be all they needed in their 50-49 victory. Delta State's defense seemed locked in during the later minutes, holding UWG to just 2-10 shooting in the final 10 minutes.
Delta State would get a chance at the last shot of the game thanks to that defensive effort, but too much time had run off for the Lady Statesmen to get an optimal look at the rim. The Lady Statesmen return to a .500 record in conference play with the second half of the GSC schedule beginning on Thursday.
Camryn Davis led all scorers with 17 points to go with 7 rebounds and 2 steals. She also shot at an extremely high rate, making 7 of her 11 attempts from the field.
Grace Watson also reached double figures with 10 points and five boards to her credit along with 2 steals.
Alanna Smith also had 10 points and 4 assists for the game.
