Statesmen Score 99 Points in Season-Opening Win

CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State opened their 2023-24 campaign with an impressive performance at home on Friday night, scoring 99 points in their first game of the GSC-SIAC Crossover. Maalik Cartwright proved his pick as a first team All-GSC by leading the Statesmen with 27 points, four rebounds, and five assists. Keithean Brooks had just as impressive a night to begin the season with 26 points, three rebounds, and a 9-for-9 night at the free throw line.
The Magicians led the game at the half 45-42, but both teams traded possesion of the lead the entire time.  Delta State's nine second half three-pointers and lock-down defense helped them outscore LeMoyne-Owen 57-36 in the second half and seal the 99-81 opening night win.
