Lady Statesmen Fall in Double Overtime Thriller

Cleveland, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team matched up with the Reddies of Henderson State University Wednesday night in a nonconference matchup.
Ashley Farrar scored the game's opening basket, giving the Reddies the early lead. The Reddies would control the first quarter leading 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter would be like the first quarter with the Reddies controlling the quarter and going into the half with a 45-34 lead. Delta State's Grace Watson would score the opening basket in the second half.
The Green and White would be held to only 18 points in the third quarter. Trailing in the fourth quarter the DSU offense would explode for 30 points being led by Wakiryah Daniels.
The Lady Statesmen would tie the game up in the closing seconds of the game to force overtime with two big steals on HSU inbounds. In overtime, the Reddies scored the first basket to put the pressure on the Lady Statesmen.
With three seconds left in overtime, Daniels would hit a three-pointer to send it to a second overtime. In the second the Reddies would hold the Green and White to only six points. DSU would fall to Henderson 106-98.
 
Wakiryah Daniels led all scorers with 30 points and Jayla Smith had 29 points for Delta State. Natalie Cardenas led the Reddies in scoring with 23 points in the contest.
