Cleveland, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball team began conference play taking on Christian Brothers on their homecourt.
Keithean Brooks got the night started for the Statesmen with a layup scoring the team's first basket. The Bucs got out to a solid 18-9 lead with 14:55 left to play in the first half, but the Statesmen bounced back with a 12-2 run of their own to capture their first lead of the night 21-20 at the 10:49 mark. It was a back-and-forth affair between the two teams for most of the first half, but it was the Statesmen who gained the advantage heading into the break 41-35.
It was CBU who came out of the halftime break with the hot hand retaking the lead 47-45 with 15:03 left to play in the ballgame. The game continued the trend from the first half with both teams battling for an edge, but the Statesmen were able to recapture the lead at the 9:42 mark 58-56. The Bucs were forced to call a timeout with 6:21 left in the second half after the Statesmen extended their lead 67-60 with the made 3-point basket by Brooks. In a game that featured 15 lead changes, the Statesmen showed their fight by coming out with the 79-74 win over Christain Brothers University.
