Lady Statesmen Fall to the Blazers of Valdosta

Cleveland, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball team traveled to Valdosta, Georgia on Friday for a GSC matchup with the Blazers of Valdosta State University. Victoria Ikenasio scored the game's first basket to give the Blazers the early lead. Wakiryah Daniels responded by hitting the Lady Statesmen's first three-pointer of the night. Grace Watson scored the second DSU basket to tie the game tied at 5. Valdosta then went on an 18-point run to close the first quarter, leading 20-5 at the end of the first. Jayla Smith ended the VSU run by scoring the opening basket of the second quarter. Elisha Wilson scored the next basket for DSU to close the gap to 23-9. The Green and White scored 11 more points in the quarter but, the Blazers were still able to extend the lead to 41-21 at the end of the half.

The Green and White turned up the defensive effort in the third quarter but the Blazers would respond to the press by hitting a three-pointer to open the second half. The Lady Statesmen were held to only 13 points in the third quarter while VSU scored 23 points.  The Lady Statesmen outscored the Blazers 23-13 in the fourth quarter, but the VSU lead would prove to be too much for DSU to come back from. The Blazers defeated DSU 77-57.
