Cleveland, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball team traveled to Pensacola, Florida on Sunday for a GSC matchup with the Argonauts of West Florida University. Elisha Wilson scored the first basket of the game, but West Florida responded with a three-pointer just 16 seconds later.
Ginny Higginbotham and
Chelsea Hamilton hit three-pointers at the end of the quarter to give the Lady Statesmen a one-point lead, but UWF's Ericka Wiseley made a layup to give the Argos a one-point lead at the end of the quarter. Makenzie Hill scored the opening basket of the second quarter to give DSU the 14-13 lead. The Lady Statesmen led the entire second quarter until Moriah Taylor of UWF made a layup with a minute left to make it 23-22 at the end of the first half.
The Argos turned up their defensive pressure to start the second half of the game. UWF held the Green and White to only nine points in the third quarter while they scored 21 points to extend the lead to 44-31. The Lady Statesmen's defense held the Argos to only 11 points in the fourth quarter but, DSU wouldn't be able to come back from the lead that UWF gained in the third quarter. The Green and White fell to the Argos with a 59-49 final score.
