CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Delta State used a late run to take the lead late from Mississippi College, but the clutch play of the Choctaws allowed them to escape Sillers Coliseum with the win. There were ten ties and ten lead changes in Saturday's back-and-forth game.
Delta State kept MC off the board for nearly five and a half minutes in what was an 8-0 run for the Statesmen to take a 57-55 lead with two and a half minutes left in the game. A Choctaw three-point play and three-point basket would get their momentum rolling again. They carried it to the end of their 62-60 win.
Maalik Cartwright led all scorers with 24 points to go with 4 rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block.
Kelen Dietrich was the only other Statesmen in double figures with 16 points, including 2 three-point makes to go with 2 assists and 2 steals.
