Box Score Cleveland, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team matched up with the Bulldogs of Union University this Tuesday, February 28 for a first-round matchup in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
Grace Watson set the tone for the Lady Statesmen with a layup to start the scoring drive. The first quarter was a tight contest until Jordan Little for the bulldogs made the go-ahead jumper at the end to take a 17-16 lead.
Alanna Smith opened the second quarter with a jumper to take an early 18-17 lead.
Bryanna Taylors added two points to extend the halftime lead to five points.
Michelle Smith opened the second half by hitting a free throw to extend the green-and-white lead to three. A fast break layup by
Camryn Davis lifted the Lady Statemen up 51-44 to end the third quarter of play. The Lady Statesmen entered the fourth leading by seven against the Bulldogs. In the fourth, the Bulldogs tied the game up at 57 with 4:26 left in the game. The Lady Statesmen would trail at the 2:58 mark left in the game.
Alanna Smith would bring it within one with 1:42 left.
Camryn Davis would score her final career points as a Lady Statesmen to bring it within one point. The game ended with a questionable foul call Mackenzie Hill didn't get. Davis would also lead the Green and White by scoring 25 points and 3 assists. Shaniqu Lucas led all scorers in the game with 33 points and 7 rebounds.
