Statesmen Drop Non-Conference Game at Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky. – Statesmen Basketball traveled to the Bluegrass State on Saturday morning for a non-conference game with the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. The Panthers came into the game with ten wins, seven of which came in front of their home crowd.
The Statesmen and Pathers seemed evenly matched early, with five lead changes in the first half.
Neither team could take a lead larger than five points in the first half as both teams shot over 40 percent from the field.
Caleb Allen led the Statesmen in the half with 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting with 2 three-pointers.
The Panthers led 29-27 at the break.

The second half saw seven lead changes between the teams, but the Panthers took two of the largest leads of the game at eight and thirteen points at different times. Delta State erased the early eight-point lead with a 9-0 run around the ten-minute mark in the half.
The Statesmen hit five three-pointers in the second half, three of which came from Keithean Brooks, but the Panthers used a 22-7 advantage on the boards in the last twenty minutes to take their leads.
Kentucky Wesleyan also shot 53 percent to DSU's 46 percent in the second half to secure the 75-62 win.

KB Brooks and Caleb Allen were tied for the game-high in points with 16 each. Both players hit 6 shots in the game, with 4 three-pointers for KB and 3 for Allen.
Chris Terrell was the only other Statesmen in double-figures with 12 points. He also hit 6 shots from the field and recorded 3 assists and 3 steals.
