Second Half Run Propels Statesmen Past CBU

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Saturday's trip to Christian Brothers looked to be evenly matched on paper and proved to be just that early on in the contest. The Statesmen and Bucs came into the game with nearly identical conference records as the second half of the GSC schedule officially began.
The Statesmen and Bucs traded the lead seven times in the opening half, with not much separation between the advantages. The Statesmen led by as many as seven points and took a 37-36 lead into the halftime break.
Chris Terrell and Caleb Allen were the most notable players for the Green & White in the first half, as both players reached double-digits with just two missed shots between the pair. Chris hit 3 three-pointers and had 13 points, while Allen hit 4 threes and had 14 points.

The Statesmen took a 45-38 lead to start the second half, but the Bucs went on a 15-3 run to take a 52-48 lead with 12:34 left.
Delta State later rode a hot run by Keithean Brooks, who scored 10 straight for the Statesmen, to regain the lead at 62-61 with 7:10 remaining. Kelen Dietrich then hit back-to-back threes and a Maalik Cartwright lay-up to put DSU up 69-63.
The Statesmen played great defense down the stretch and continued to make their shots as they held on for the important 80-68 victory.

Caleb Allen led the game in scoring with 22 points, including 6 made three-pointers. He also recorded 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
Chris Terrell was right behind Allen with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. KB Brooks was the only other Statesman in double-figures with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
Kelen Dietrich and Maalik Cartwright finished with 8 and 6 points, respectively. Kelen hit 2 three-pointers and Maalik recorded a game-high 5 blocks.
