CLEVELAND, MISS. – The Delta State University men's soccer program is set to host the Choctaws of Mississippi College on Friday (Oct. 11) at Delta Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
The Statesmen (2-2-5, 1-1-2 GSC) are sixth in the Gulf South Standings and are one spot behind Mississippi College (4-3-1, 2-2 GSC) who currently stands in fifth place in the conference. The last time these two teams met it was in the first round of the Gulf South Conference playoffs where the eighth seeded Statesmen scored three goals from
Santiago Rossi,
Malo Clement, and
Ryan Thistle to upset the top ranked Choctaws in Clinton.
Scouting the Statesmen
- The Statesmen enter Friday's derby with a 2-1 record at Delta Field this season with their most recent home win coming last Monday (Sept. 30) in a 2-0 win over Union.
- The Statesmen defense has kept junior goalkeeper Mason Baglio bored in the cage in the past three games. The Statesmen are third in the GSC with allowing only 1.11 goals per game as a collective unit
- Junior Ryan Thistle has the team high four points for the Statesmen so far thus season. Eight different Statesmen have contributed a goal so far this season.
Scouting the Choctaws
- The Choctaws come into Friday's match with a two-match win streak as they scored three goals in both matches against Union and Christian Brothers. The Choctaws hold a 0-3-1 record on the road this season.
- The Choctaws have the GSC's top goal scorer in Lewis Matton. Matton has 11 goals in eight games played this season.
- Mississippi College gives up the second highest goals per game as they give up an average of 2.13 goals per game.
