Statesmen Set for Weekend Home Stand with UAH and West Alabama

CLEVELAND, MISS. – The Delta State University men's soccer program (2-3-5, 1-2-2 GSC) will finish their three-game home stretch this Friday (Oct. 18) and Sunday (Oct.20) as they welcome the Chargers from The University of Alabama in Huntsville, and the Tigers from the University of West Alabama.
 
The Statesmen will have their matches kick off at approximately 3:30 p.m. (CDT) from Delta Field.
 
Scouting the Statesmen.
  • Delta State enters the weekend with a 2-3-5 overall record and a 1-2-2 record in the Gulf South Conference. The Statesmen fell to Mississippi College 2-0 last Friday in a match where Delta State played a man down for 50 minutes.
  • Junior Forward Ryan Thistle leads for Delta State with two goals on the season along with a team high four points. The Statesmen defensive back line continues to show their experience as they give up an average 1.20 goals per game and only allow 9.6 shots per game.
  • Keeper Mason Baglio has the conference second highest three shutouts on the season. Baglio has 31 saves on the season.
Scouting the Chargers
  • UAH enters the weekend with a 1-6-3 overall record and a 0-5-1 GSC conference record. The Chargers fell to Union last Sunday by a 2-1 final. The Month of October has not treated the Chargers very well as they are 0-4 in the month of October.
  • Sophomore forward Oli Orzechowski leads the Charger attack with four goals on the season. One of Orzechowski's four goals came in the 2-1 loss to Union last Sunday.
  • Redshirt Freshman keeper Sonny Wright has been busy in the last two appearances for the Chargers. Wright has faced a combined 28 shots in his past two starts.
Scouting the Tigers
  • The Tigers enter this weekend's road trip with a 4-4-3 record and a 2-3-2 GSC mark. The Tigers fell to Christian Brothers last Sunday 3-0 in Livingston.
  • Sophomore forward David Nunez currently leads the Tigers with three goals and three assists on the season. Nunez hasn't scored a goal for the Tigers since their third match of the season back in September against Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • In the goal, the Tigers have relied on Timon Dressel, who has played all 990:00 minutes this season totaling with a 4-4-3 record. Dressel has given up 13 goals and has 50 saves on the season.
