Statesmen Look to Continue Hot Start with Mid-Week Clash at Lane

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (2-0, 0-0 GSC) will make a mid-week road trip to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the Dragons of Lane College Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. (CDT)
 
Fans can follow the action, as he Voice of the Statesmen, Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and on the live stream will be provided on YouTube from Lane College.
 
Scouting the Statesmen
  • Delta State cruised to a 2-0 start to their season this past weekend, with two wins over LeMoyne-Owen. The Statesmen pressure forced 25 turnovers in their 87-73 win on Friday night in Memphis. On Sunday, the Statesmen showed their depth, outscoring the Magicians 30-5 in their 80-76-win Sunday afternoon in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
  • Senior guard Keithean Brooks, and junior guard Kolby Horace both are the leading scorers for the Green and White as they average 19.5 points per game. Brooks scored a team high 16 on Sunday's win, shooting 5-9 from the field. Horace had the team high for the Statesmen with 27 Friday night, shooting 10-14 from the field and 5-7 from three-point land.
  • The last time these two teams hit the hardwood against each other was in November of the 2021-22 season when Lane defeated the Statesmen 65-62 in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Scouting the Dragons
  • Lane enters the mid-week contest with an 0-2 record after losing to Christian Brothers and Union in the GSC/SIAC Crossover event in Jackson, Tenn., last weekend. Lane lost to Union 73-61 Friday, and 71-57 Saturday against Christian Brothers.
  • The Dragons have three guys entering tomorrow's contest averaging double-digit scoring. Junior guard Elijah Greer Dawson leads the Dragons scoring with 13.0 points per game. Greer-Dawson had a 20-point eight rebound performance against Union Friday night. Against Christian Brothers, the Dragons got production off the bench from junior point guard Rico Sain II. Sain II scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished two assists.
