Statesmen Reach Century Mark Against the Dragons

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (3-0, 0-0 GSC) scored 31 points on 28 forced turnovers in their 104-77 win at Lane College Tuesday evening.
 
Keithean Brooks led all scorers with 24 points as he shot 9-16 from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. The Statesmen's depth was a factor for the Green and White as Delta State had 48 bench points including a double-double performance from Jesse Washington.
 
Dirk Westbrook also brought energy off the bench as he added 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and three steals.
 
The Statesmen and Dragons went back and forth for the first ten minutes exchanging the lead five times before the Statesmen man-to-man full court pressure would spark a 33-12 run, forcing 11 turnovers to close the half, giving the Statesmen a 47-30 lead into the break.
 
Brooks would score 10 of his 24 in the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
 
The Statesmen would come out of the half with the same energy as they would start a 25-9 run in the first eight minutes of the second half, with buckets from Brooks, Washington, Westbrook and Chris Terrell. The Statesmen caused four turnovers in the 25-9 run.
 
With the score 73-41, the Statesmen would continue to cause havoc on the defensive end as their pressure would cause a 18-10 run to take a 91-51 lead, the largest lead in the game for the Statesmen with 5:30 to go.
 
The Statesmen would cruise to the century mark as they would finish with a 104-77 win against Lane.
 
The Statesmen would dominate the glass as they would have a season high 38 rebounds to Lane's 20 rebounds.
 
The Statesmen will return to Walter Sillers Coliseum this Sunday, Nov. 17 as they host the Panthers from Kentucky Wesleyan University. That game will tip off at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
