BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Freshman guard
Daniela Gintere was named the Gulf South Conference Freshmen of the Week Tuesday Morning. Gintere is the first Freshman in the Delta State Women's program to get a weekly honor since
Zyaire Ewing earned Co-Player of the Week on February 15 in the 2021-22 season.
Gintere is also the first Lady Statesmen to earn Freshman of the Week since
Kirstin Brown won it on December 24, 2018.
Gintere currently leads all Lady Statesmen scorers this past weekend, averaging 10 points per game shooting 41.7% from the field and 50% from beyond the arch.
Gintere came off the bench in both games vs. Lane, and LeMoyne-Owen. In Friday's 68-63 win against Lane, Gintere faced foul trouble but, also attacked the Dragons as she shot 5-6 from the free throw line.
In the Saturday evening victory against LeMoyne-Owen, Gintere was one of five Lady Statesmen who hit a three ball in the 28-point second quarter as she scored 10 points in 15 minutes played.
The Lady Statesmen look to go 3-0 tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face the Reddies of Henderson State University. That game will tip off at 5:30 p.m. (CDT).
