Lady Statesmen Fall on the Road at Henderson State 83-73

Grace Watson Posts Career-High 24 points and 17 Rebounds

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State University women's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 GSC) fell to the Reddies from Henderson State University 83-73 Wednesday afternoon in the Duke Wells Center on the campus of Henderson State University.
 
The Lady Statesmen would get a career day from Senior forward Grace Watson. Watson scored a career-high 24 points and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds.
 
The Lady Statesmen would shoot 50% from the field in the opening quarter including six points from Watson. The Lady Statesmen would score nine points in the final 1:30 of the opening frame with two three balls from Madi Kate Vuncannon and Daniela Gintere along with a three-point play from MaKenzie Hill. Vuncannon scored 12 points for the Lady Statesmen off the bench.
 
The Lady Statesmen and the Reddies would have their highest scoring quarter in the second. An 18-10 run by Henderson State would help the Reddies take a 48-39 lead into the Half.
 
The Lady Statesmen would make a push as Wakiryah Daniel's three in the third would put the Lady Statesmen within six. Daniels scored nine points, going 4-4 from the charity stripe. The Reddies would take a 68-57 lead into the final quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Statesmen out scored the Reddies 16-15. The Lady Statesmen would be within two possessions with 1:51 after a three ball from Vuncannon. Olivia Allen would make a nice drive to the bucket after the Lady Statesmen forced a turnover in the next possession, but her layup would be blocked. Henderson State would get the rebound and hold on, knocking down free throws down the stretch to win 83-73.
 
The Lady Statesmen will return to Walter Sillers Coliseum next Tuesday for "Kids Day" as they will host the Golden Sun from Arkansas Tech. That game will be tipping off at 12:00 p.m., (CDT).
