ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State University men's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 GSC) fell on the road to the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist University Thursday evening 90-82 at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia.
The Statesmen on the offensive end got a Delta State career high from
Decorian Payton. Payton contributed by taking what the defense gave him, scoring 18 points.
Kolby Horace led the Statesmen with 20 points including 13 second half points.
The Statesmen started strong as they led for 13:50 of the first half getting 10 points from Payton and
Jesse Washington off the bench.
Delta State would pull out to their largest lead of the game on a Washington three ball with 13:01 remaining
Ouachita Baptist would take a 47-41 lead into the break on a 26-19 run in the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
The Tigers would pull ahead early in the second half as they would grab the largest lead of the game at 63-49 with 13:22 to go.
The Green and White would start a 14-0 run in 4:41 with back-to-back three balls from
Sam Whitmer. During the 14-0 run, Horace would attack the bucket scoring four of his 13 second half.
Delta State would tie the game up one more time at 67-67 with 6:17 to go.
OBU would pull ahead by two possessions later and held on to a 90-82 win.
The Statesmen return home next Tuesday, Nov. 26, as the host the Boll Weevils from the University of Arkansas Monticello at 7:30 p.m., (CDT).
