CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 GSC) will make their final road trip tomorrow afternoon as they head to Magnolia, Ark., to take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas University.
Tipoff will be at 5:00 p.m. as The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network.
This will mark the first meeting between the two teams since December of 2017 when the Lady Statesmen defeated Southern Arkansas 53-49.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- Delta State enters this Friday's non-conference battle with a 2-2 overall record after falling 58-43 to Arkansas Tech, Tuesday afternoon at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
- Senior forward Grace Watson leads the Lady Statesmen, averaging a double-double with 11.0 points per game and grabbing 12.5 rebounds per game. Watson earned GSC Player of the Week honors after getting her career high 24-point 17 rebound performance last week against Henderson State.
- Against Arkansas Tech, freshman point guard Brilynn Findley logged her first double-digit scoring performance as she score 12 points and dished out two assists.
Scouting the Muleriders
- Southern Arkansas enters this Friday's game with an unblemished 4-0 record. Last Saturday, the Muleriders defeated Arlington Baptist 108-37 last Saturday in Magnolia.
- The Southern Arkansas offense has been led by senior guard Tequaza Chalmers. Chalmers currently is averaging 14.3 points per game shooting 66.7% from beyond the arch and 100% from the charity stripe.
- Also in the back court for the Muleriders is Junior Marlee Bright, who averages 7.3 assists and 4.8 steals per game. In the front court, Southern Arkansas depended on Crystal Ortiz and Elena Lijo-Rodriguez. Ortiz leads the Muleriders on the glass, averaging 7 rebounds per game. Lijo-Rodriguez serves as the rim protector for the Muleriders with 2.5 blocks per game.
