CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (6-4, 2-2 GSC) will hit the road for their final two games in 2024 as they head to Livingston, Ala., to take on the Tigers of the University of West Alabama Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
The Statesmen will follow West Alabama up with a road trip to Huntsville to take on the nationally ranked Chargers from the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call of both games on the Statesmen Sports Network.
Scouting the Statesmen
- Delta State will enter this tough road trip with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-2 Gulf South Conference record. The Statesmen are fresh off a 92-80 win over Auburn Montgomery last Saturday.
- Senior point guard Chris Terrell has been on a tear recently for the Green and White. The Horn Lake, Miss., native averaged 31.5 points per game in the two games last weekend. In the win against AUM, Terrell had his career-high 42-point performance in the win. Terrell has been named the GSC Player of the Week and the National Association of Basketball Coaches' National Player of the Week. Terrell also leads the nation with his 38 steals this season.
- Delta State got junior transfer Jesse Washington back in the lineup last Saturday after battling an ankle injury and he shined for the Green and White with a 20-point performance against Montevallo last Thursday.
Scouting the Tigers
- West Alabama enters this weekend with a 6-4 overall record and a 2-2 conference record. Last weekend was a split for the Tigers as they defeated Lee 68-67 but fell to Trevecca Nazarene 64-51.
- The Tigers backcourt is led by senior guard Thaddeus Williams. Williams currently averages 15.9 points per game and pulls down 5.8 rebounds per game. Against Trevecca, Williams scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds.
- Jaylen Lemons is another player to watch for on the Tigers, the 5'11 guard averages 11.1 points per game and leads the team with 25 assists and nine steals.
Scouting the Chargers
- Alabama Huntsville is currently ranked 13th in the nation in the NABC Poll and 14th in the D2CSC poll with a 9-1 overall record and a 4-0 GSC record. The Chargers lone loss this season came in overtime against the top ranked team in the nation in Nova Southeastern.
- The Chargers are led by the top scorer in the GSC in Tommy Murr. Murr leads all scorers in the GSC averaging 21.9 points per game. Against Lee last Saturday, Murr led all scorers with 23 points in their 82-62 win.
- Senior guard Blake Campbell has been filling out the stat sheet for the Chargers. Campbell averages 15 points per game all while leading UAH with 45 assists this season and averages 5.4 rebounds per game.
