CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (7-3, 3-1 GSC) will look to add on to their three-game winning streak as they play in three games this weekend.
The Lady Statesmen travel to Livingston, Ala., Thursday to take on the Tigers from the University of West Alabama at 5:00 p.m. (CDT). Following that, Delta State will head to Huntsville, Ala., Saturday to take on the Chargers from The University of Alabama in Huntsville at 2:00 p.m., (CDT). To finish the weekend, the green and white will have an exhibition against the Red Wolves from Arkansas State on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network for the West Alabama and Alabama Huntsville games.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
- Delta State enters this weekend on a three-game winning streak and has won 5 of their last six games. Last Saturday the Lady Statesmen defeated the Warhawks from Auburn Montgomery 77-66.
- The Lady Statesmen have been getting great production out of their senior class starting with Grace Watson. Watson leads all Lady Statesmen scores, as she averages 11.3 points per game and pulls down an average 8.3 rebounds. Against AUM, Watson led all scorers with a 17-point performance.
- MaKenzie Hill has took the lead as Delta State's Point Guard. The Hazel Green, Ala., native will make a trip back home after having a career-high five steals in the win over AUM. Hill added 12 points and eight assists in the win.
Scouting the Tigers
- West Alabama is off to a slow start to their 2024-25 season as they are currently 0-8 and 0-4 in the Gulf South Conference. Last weekend, the Tigers fell to Lee 82-66 and Trevecca Nazarene 67-50.
- The Tigers are led by senior guard Julia Rodriguez. The Sarasota, Fla., native leads all UWA scorers averaging 12.5 points per game. Against Lee and Trevecca, Rodriguez scored 22 points in both games.
- In the front court, the Tigers have 6'0 senior center Kaedre Denson. The Philadelphia, Miss., native leads the Tigers averaging 5.7 rebounds per game and five blocks so far this season
Scouting the Chargers
- Alabama Huntsville has caught several teams off guard as they are off to a great start with a 7-2 record and 3-1 conference record. Last weekend, the Chargers lost their first conference game this season to Lee 66-51.
- Junior guard Lili Wilken leads the way for UAH. The Transfer from Trevecca leads all scorers, averaging 13.0 points per game and leads the Chargers on the glass as well, pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game. Against Lee, the Flames held her to a five point performance as she shot 2-7 from the field.
- Along with Wilken in the backcourt is fellow transfer Millie Brown. Brown averages 11.1 points per game with 10 steals this season. Against Lee, Graduate forward Alexis Woods had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Scouting The Red Wolves
- Arkansas State is off to a 3-5 start to their 2024-25 season. The Red Wolves face Tarleton State this Thursday and are looking to bounce back after a 82-71 loss on the road to UT Martin Sunday afternoon.
- Junior guard Ziyon Shannon leads all scorers for ASU as Shannon averages 10.1 points per game. Against UT Martin, Shannon had 11 points shooting 4-9 from the field, five assists, and four steals.
- Along in the backcourt with Shannon is senior guard Kyanna Morgan. Morgan averages 9.4 points per game. Morgan had 13 points and a team high seven rebounds against UT Martin. Leading all scorers against UT Martin was West Virginia Transfer Wynter Rogers. Rogers had 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
