HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (6-6, 2-4 GSC) fell to the Chargers from the University of Alabama at Huntsville (11-1, 6-0 GSC) 87-67 Saturday afternoon in Spragins Hall in Huntsville.
Delta State senior point guard would lead all scorers with a 24-point performance. Terrell added two assists and three steals. Sophomore guard
Sam Whitmer would add a career-high 14 points as he shot 50% from the field and from beyond the arch
The Chargers took an early lead on a 16-0 run before taking a 52-24 lead into the half.
Kolby Horace led all Statesmen scorers in the first half scoring eight points.
The Statesmen would try to overcome the 28-point deficit in the second half as they started the half on a 11-4 run fueled by three pointers made by Terrell,
Sam Whitmer, and
Jesse Washington. Whitmer would score his career-high 14 points shooting 4-8 from beyond the arch.
With 8:28 to go in the game, Delta State would go on a 7-0 run to bring the UAH lead to 14 points at 73-59.
The Statesmen would out score the Chargers 43-35 in the second half as they would shoot 53.3 % from the field.
The Chargers would maintain their lead, bringing it back to 20 to hold on to an 87-67 win. Delta State would force 13 turnovers in the game, winning the turnover battle 13-11.
Delta State will be back on the hardwood on January 2 as they host the Argonauts from the University of West Florida. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m., on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
