CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State Men's Basketball Team (6-7, 2-5 GSC) lost to the Argonauts from the University of West Florida (3-9, 2-4 GSC) 77-73 Thursday evening on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
Delta State put up 50 points in the second half led by senior guards
Keithean Brooks and
Chris Terrell. Brooks led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 50 percent from the field. Terrell scored 20 points and had four steals.
The Statesmen started the game on a 6-0 run fueled by two three balls from Brooks and Terrell.
Delta State would sub five in and five out as the lineup of
Bryce Clayton,
Jesse Washington,
Brendan Braddix,
Phillip Hughes and
Je'Marion Westbrook would help keep the Statesmen ahead at the halfway point in the first half.
The Argonauts would finish the half strong taking the lead and pulling ahead to 31-23 at the half.
Once trailing by double digits in the second half, the Statesmen would make a late surge in the game decreasing their deficit to two points with 44 seconds remaining in regulation.
Delta State outscored West Florida 50-46 in the second half but the Argonauts would hold on to a 77-73 win.
The Statesmen will host nationally ranked Valdosta State who defeated Mississippi College 96-74 tonight on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., (CDT).
