CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University women's basketball team (4-2, 0-0 GSC) will start conference play Thursday as they travel to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Union University at 5:00 p.m. (CDT). Delta State will also play on the road Saturday in Memphis, Tenn., against the Lady Bucs of Christian Brothers University. Tip off for Saturday's contest will be a 1:00 p.m.
The Green and White enter conference play receiving votes in the D2CSC South Region poll, while being on a two-game winning streak with wins over Southern Arkansas and Harding.
Scouting the Lady Statesmen.
- The Lady Statesmen are 4-2 after defeating GAC preseason favorite Harding 64-60 last Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Junior transfer guard Olivia Allen scored 21 points in the win.
- Grace Watson continues to clean the glass and lead Delta State averaging 10.8 points per game and pulls down 10.5 rebounds per game. Against Harding, Watson scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds in the win.
- After scoring her season high 21 points, Allen enters this game after two-straight games scoring double digits. The Batesville, Ark., native averages 8.7 points per game shooting 41.5 % from the field.
Scouting the Lady Bulldogs
- Union enters conference play with a 4-2 record with both losses coming against nationally ranked opponents Ashland and Grand Valley State. The Lady Bulldogs, averaging a GSC best 85.0 points per game, are coming off a 68-42 loss to no. 5 Ashland last Tuesday. The 42 points is a season low for Union
- The Lady Bulldogs have a trio of guards who average double figures led by senior guard Bethany Dillard. Dillard leads Union, averaging 11.7 points per game shooting 39% from beyond the arch.
- The other two guards who average double digit scoring are the Lee sisters Macey and Olivia Lee. Macey averages 11.5 points per game in an average 19.5 minutes played per game. Olivia has started in all six games for Union and averages 10.5 points per game and is shooting 46% from the field.
Scouting the Lady Bucs
- Christian Brothers enters this weekend with a 0-5 overall record after a tough non-conference slate. CBU went on the road and fell to Ouachita Baptist 65-47 Monday night in Arkadelphia.
- The Lady Bucs are led by division 1 grad transfer Jada Hood. Hood enters the weekend averaging 12.8 points per game and dishes out 2.5 assists per game. Against OBU, Hood scored a season high 15 points, going 5-12 from the field and pulled down three rebounds.
- In the frontcourt, Christian Brothers is led by junior forward Valencia McFall. The Biloxi native has averaged 8.8 points per game, while shooting 46.2% from the field.
