Terrell’s 22-Point Second Half Paces Statesmen Past CBU 86-75

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior point guard Chris Terrell scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half to help pace the Delta State University men's basketball team (5-3, 1-1 GSC) to a 86-75 win over the Buccaneers from Christian Brothers University Saturday afternoon in Canale Arena at CBU.
 
Terrell, Keithean Brooks, and Kolby Horace each eclipsed the 20-point mark as they scored a combined 72 of the Green and White's 86 points en route to their first conference win of the season.
 
The Statesmen would go back-and-forth in a fast paced first half as they would take a 12-9 lead early from two early three pointers from Horace. Horace would have 16 first half points including an and one dunk to give the Statesmen momentum into the half as they trailed 44-39.
 
 
In the first 7:10 of the second half, the returning duo of Terrell and Brooks took charge, scoring all 17 points in the 17-12 run to tie the game back up at 56.
 
With 12:24 left in the second half, a layup from Jesse Washington would give Delta State their first lead since the 15-minute mark in the first half at 12-11.
 
Delta State would pull ahead to a 62-56 lead as Horace would add four points to finish a quick 6-0 run in a minute and two seconds. The Buccaneers would respond by a 8-2 run to tie the game back up a 64-64 with
 
With the game tied up at 66-66 with with 7:45 to go, Chris Terrell would start a game changing run scoring 12 of the Statesmen's 14 points on a 14-2 run to give the Green and White their biggest lead of the game at 80-67. 
 
The Statesmen would maintain their lead down the stretch taking a double-digit road victory to even their conference record to 1-1.
 
Delta State comes back to Walter Sillers Coliseum for the final time in 2024 with a two-game home stretch starting next Thursday, Dec. 12 against the Falcons from the University of Montevallo. Tip-off Thursday will be at 7:30 p.m. (CDT).
