Statesmen Fall to West Alabama at Home

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Statesmen hosted West Alabama Saturday afternoon in a GSC match-up. The Statesmen entered the game as the seven-seed in the GSC, but were only one game behind the four-seed Tigers.

The Statesmen and Tigers looked evenly matched early on, with four ties and two lead changes in the first half. West Alabama eventually went on a run at the end of the half and took their largest lead of the game at the time into the halftime break at 37-26.
The Tigers shot 55.2 percent in the half to Delta State's 40.0 percent. Both teams had identical stat lines from beyond the arc, with each team hitting two shots on nine attempts. UWA also made the most of their extra chances in the first half, out-scoring DSU 5-2 in points off turnovers and 7-2 in second-chance points.

Delta State cut the Tiger lead to six several times early in the second half, but the Tigers continued to make tough shots down the stretch. The teams again had nearly identical stat lines in the second half, but the halftime advantage proved to be difficult to overcome.
