ROME, Ga. – The Statesmen traveled to Western Georgia Thursday night for a GSC contest against the Shorter Hawks. Delta State traveled to Rome after defeating the Hawks at home 99-85 on January 2.
The Hawks out-shot the Statesmen percentage-wise in the first half at 44.4 percent compared to 36.7 percent. The Statesmen trailed 13-7 just around the first media timeout, but used the momentum of five three-pointers to take a 30-28 lead into the halftime break.
Delta State shot a much higher 53.8 percent in the second half and hit nine more three-pointers down the stretch. The Statesmen scored 15 points off of turnovers and scored 10 second-chance points for the game in their 77-65 win over the Hawks.
Keithean Brooks led all scorers with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting with 6 three-pointers. He also recorded 2 rebounds and a steal.
Caleb Allen hit 3 three-pointers and finished with 14 points. He also snagged a rebound and a steal.
Kolby Horace was also in double-figures with 10 points, including 2 three-point makes. He reeled in three rebounds and a steal.
Kelen Dietrich also hit 3 from beyond the arc, finishing with 9 points.
Derek Moore scored 7 points and finished with a team-high 9 rebounds.
