Lady Statesmen Win Important Home Game Against Chargers

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Lady Statesmen held onto the eight-seed in the GSC coming into Thursday's crucial game against Alabama-Huntsville. Delta State needed a win on the home floor with the Chargers not far behind in the GSC standings.
The Lady Statesmen scored 21 points to the Chargers' 7 in the first quarter of play. The Lady Statesmen got 12 of their points in the first from three-pointers. The Chargers came out strong in the second quarter, putting 16 points on the board, while the Lady Statesmen added another 12 on their end. The Lady Statesmen led 33-23 at the half, led by Martina Czesick with 9 points.
The Lady Statesmen put 9 points on the board in the third, but the Chargers made a comeback, scoring 15 points to put them only 4 points behind the Lady Statesmen at 42-38. The Lady Statesmen finished strong, adding 18 points in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 60 points to the Chargers 49. AJ McCandlis led the team in points, scoring 14 over the four quarters.
