Lady Statesmen Fall Behind Early in 71-41 Loss to Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball Team (9-7, 5-5 GSC) fell to the Flames from Lee University (12-3, 6-3 GSC) 71-41 Sunday afternoon in Paul Dana Walker Arena.
 
Senior forward Grace Watson led the way for the green and white with 15 points and six rebounds.
 
The Flames jumped out to a 16-2 start to end the first quarter. Wakiryah Daniels led all scorers with two points in the quarter.
 
A 5-2 run after a Martyna Czescik three started the second quarter for the Lady Statesmen. Czescik had seven points shooting 2-4 from beyond the arch.
 
After trailing 34-12 at the half, the Lady Statesmen settled down on the offensive side of the ball shooting 4-9 from the field in the third quarter. Daniels added six of her 10 points scored in the contest in the third quarter.
 
Delta State continued to attack the rim in the second half as they would see the free throw line 21 of the 31 times in the game as they shot 25-31 from the free throw line.
 
The Lady Statesmen get a five-day rest before hosting the Choctaws of Mississippi College next Saturday on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Next Saturday's contest will tip off at 2:00 p.m., (CDT).
