CLEVELAND, Miss. – Delta State University's tennis programs are slated for an action-packed spring season.
Last season saw the Lady Statesmen take victories over Montevallo (4-3) and Shorter (7-0), while the Statesmen posted victories over Shorter (5-2), University of Tennessee Southern (4-2), and Christian Brothers (4-3).
Returning for the Statesmen from last season are
Christopher Albert,
Harry Browning,
Jacob Lubbe,
Sebastian Hernandez,
Aleksa Milentijevic,
Pavle Popsavin, and
Tom Rance. Returning for the Lady Statesmen are
Maria Caride, Weronicka Kaczmarska, and
Isabella Llano.
Head Coach Will Irvin believes both teams are poised for success in 2025. "We have two new, different teams from last year, so I'm excited to see what they can do on the court. Our women's team is led by our only senior
Maria Caride, and a top transfer
Yasmina Mayer. Behind their leadership I think the girls can make a strong run in the conference and potentially nationally. Our men's team has faced some challenges recently losing a couple of guys, but even with the challenges presented I think we will have a great season.
The Spring 2025 season starts with the Lady Statesmen playing Tennessee State in an exhibition in Oxford on Jan. 18, followed by four consecutive home matches at the Cleveland Country Club with exhibitions against East Central Community College (Jan. 31) and Jones College (Feb. 7). The regular season will start with matches against Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Feb. 8) and Meridian Community College (Feb. 15) at home. The tennis team will host conference matches against West Florida, Christian Brothers, Mississippi College, and Auburn Montgomery.
