Lady Statesmen Set for Magnolia State Clash with MC

CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Women's Basketball team (9-7, 5-5 GSC) are back in town this Saturday as they will host the Choctaws of Mississippi College (9-7, 5-5 GSC) on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum at 2:00 p.m. (CDT).
 
The Voice of the Statesmen Michael Gross will have the call on the Statesmen Sports Network and the FloCollege Network.
 
This matchup will mark the 78th matchup between the Lady Statesmen and the Choctaws. Delta State holds a 63-14 record against MC.
 
Scouting the Lady Statesmen
  • After going 1-1 in last week's Tennessee road trip, Delta State will enter this week with five days off, carrying a 9-7 overall record and are 5-5 in conference play.
  • Senior Forwards Grace Watson and Dakiya Toney continue to impress in the front court for the Green and White. Watson leads all scorers averaging 10.6 points per game and grabbing 8.4 rebounds per game after her 15-point six rebound performance against Lee. Toney secured her second double-double of the season scoring 12 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in DSU's 62-51 win against Trevecca Nazarene.
  • Wakiryah Daniels, and Martyna Czescik got it going in the two-game road trip for Delta State. Daniels averaged 11 points per game as she scored 12 in the win against Trevecca Nazarene and 10 against Lee. Czescik got it going from beyond the arch for the green and white. In the two-game road trip, Czescik shot 4-7 from beyond the arch as Martyna scored her season high 10 points against Trevecca Nazarene.
Scouting the Choctaws
  • Mississippi College also enters this weekend with a 9-7 overall record and are 5-5 in GSC play. The Choctaws enter this weekend with a 2-3 record in their past five games along with at three-game losing streak
  • MC's backcourt is led by senior guard Tiara Abron. The Senatobia native leads all Choctaw scorers averaging 13.1 points per game, along with dishing out 33 assists and 30 steals this season.
  • Along with Abron is junior guard Tytiana Buckley. Buckley averages 12.5 points per game and grabs 5.7 rebounds per game. Both Abron and Buckley did not play in Monday night's loss to Trevecca Nazarene.
