CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State University Men's Basketball Team (6-8, 2-6 GSC) fell in a high scoring affair with the visiting Blazers from Valdosta State University (11-2, 6-1 GSC) 100-92 Saturday afternoon on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
In the high scoring affair, the Statesmen and Blazers had 12 ties and 11 lead changes. Delta State was led by the senior duo of
Chris Terrell and
Keithean Brooks. Terrell had a team high 26 points and four steals along with two blocked shots. Brooks had 25 points and a team high six assists.
Delta State got off to a great start on the offensive side of the ball as they made nine shots from beyond the arch in the first half. The green and white shot 51% from the field in the first half.
The Statesmen and Blazers would go back and forth throughout the first ten minutes of the game as
Kolby Horace, Terrell and
Brendan Braddix would connect from beyond the arch. Horace neared a double-double in the contest scoring 14 points and grabbing a team high nine rebounds. Braddix would knock down back-to-back three balls around the 13-minute mark in the first half.
A Brooks layup would give Delta State their biggest lead of the game at 38-29 with 4:53 remaining in the first half before a Valdosta State run would tie the game up at 43 going into the break.
In the second half, both teams would continue to exchange blows as the biggest lead in the first eight minutes of the second half would be three points.
The Blazers would take a three-possession lead at the 3:20 minute mark and keep the lead to a 100-92 win.
Delta State will go on the road next week as they will head to Nashville Thursday night to face the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University. Thursday night's contest will tip off at 7:30 p.m., (CDT).
