CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Delta State Men's Basketball Team (6-6, 2-4 GSC) will look to start 2025 strong as they will host the Argonauts from the University of West Florida and the Blazers from Valdosta State University.
The Statesmen will face West Florida on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., (CDT) on Lloyd Clark Court in Walter Sillers Coliseum. Then the green and white will follow up that matchup with a game against nationally ranked Valdosta State Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (CDT).

Scouting the Statesmen
- Delta State enters the new year with a 6-6 overall record and a 2-4 GSC record. The Statesmen look to snap their two-game skid after losing to nationally ranked Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama
- The Statesmen are led by the top scorer in the Gulf South Conference in Chris Terrell. Terrell is averaging 22.7 points per game and leads the nation with his 44 steals this season. Terrell has averaged 33.3 points in the past three games including a 34-point performance against West Alabama and a 24-point performance against Alabama Huntsville.
- Delta State's key to success Is the pressure that helps the green and white to the fourth best turnover margin in the nation with an 8.2 margin. The Statesmen force a GSC leading 229 turnovers this season.
Scouting the Argonauts
- West Florida enters this weekend with a 2-9 overall record and a 1-4 record in GSC play. The Argonauts finished 2024 splitting the two-game home stand to Lee and Trevecca, defeating Lee 63-60 and fell to Trevecca 79-65.
- UWF is led in the backcourt by senior guard Shay Davis. Davis enters the new year leading all scorers for West Florida, averaging 12.5 points per game, shooting 39.2% from beyond the arch.
- In the win vs. Lee junior guard Ja'Ron Briggs led all scorers with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds and shot 5-9 from the field.
Scouting the Blazers
- Valdosta State enters this weekend with a 9-2 overall record and a 4-1 GSC record. The Blazers enter this weekend ranked 25th in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Poll.
- The Blazers are led by senior guard Carlos Hart. The Miami native leads all Blazer scorers averaging 19.5 points per game and is pulling down 6.7 rebounds per game. Last time out, Hart scored 29 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
- In the front court for VSU, junior forward Drew Mills is one of the three players averaging double figures for the Blazers this season. The Baltimore native is currently averaging 13.5 points per game and is shooting 52.6% from the field.
