NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior guard
Keithean Brooks' 30-point performance was not enough for the Delta State Men's Basketball Team (6-9, 2-7 GSC) as they fell to the Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University 99-88 Thursday night in the Trojan Fieldhouse in Nashville.
Brooks scored 30 points on 10-25 shooting from the field as the Statesmen fell behind early, shooting 10-40 from the field in the first half.
The Trojans took a 47-29 lead into the half as they shot 16-23 from the field.
The Statesmen once down 22, marched back by speeding the Trojans up and grabbing a 67-66 lead after a
Phillip Hughes three led to a
Kolby Horace steal leading to a layup and a foul with 12:27 to go in the game.
During the run, Brooks scored 16 points throughout the first eight minutes of the half as he attacked the rim getting two and ones and knocking down a three.
Late in the second half,
Chris Terrell turned it on after a cold shooting performance in the first half as the Statesmen and Trojans would go back-and-forth down the final stretch. Terrell had 15 points and six steals as he continues to lead the nation in steals.
In his first start in the green and white,
Je'Marion Westbrook scored 16 points and pulled down a team high of seven rebounds.
As both teams would exchange blows in the midway point of the second half, an 8-2 run would give the home team the advantage, as they would pull away to a 99-88 win.
The Statesmen will continue their road trip into Saturday as they will take on the Flames from Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. Saturday's game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. (CDT).
